Maureen Walker is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a former president of the Arrowsmith Chapter of the FCA. She is a founder member of the International Guild of Silk Painters, where she exhibits her paintings in their online galleries, and a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists.
Walker was a resident artist, for five years, at The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach BC, where she also taught painting on silk. She has been teaching silk painting workshops, together with classes in composition, colour theory and abstraction, at various locations on Vancouver Island since 1999. In 2000, at the request of her students, she founded the Silk Worm Club and continues in her role as president of this group of silk painters. Now living on Salt Spring Island BC, she became a member of the Salt Spring Island Painters' Guild in 2009.
She studied painting in the UK at Sheffield Art College and Crewe College where she gained her teacher certificate. After experimenting with various mediums she trained with Mandy Southan, internationally known silk painter and author. After relocating to Vancouver Island in 1998 , Walker attended workshops with Senior signature members of the FCA. She studied composition and critiquing with Don Farrell SFCA and enjoyed attending his Talking Art sessions.
Walkers' paintings hang in private and corporate collections in North America and Europe.
